Are you going through a rough time? Could counseling provide you the support to move forward in a positive way? Often the first step in making progress is deciding to seek outside help for the challenge you’re facing. You may have been dealing with this for months, or even years, with no end in sight. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, understand that help is available.
At Youth & Family Services of Haddam-Killingworth (YFSHK), our goal is to create an encouraging, judgment-free zone for families, couples and individuals to help them work through life’s challenges in a supportive, constructive atmosphere.
Nathan Carpenter is the clinical director at YFSHK, holding a degree in Human Development and Family Studies from UCONN as well as a Master degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from CCSU. Under Nathan’s leadership, YFSHK is staffed with a well-trained team of professional, empathetic and experienced counselors and therapists.
YFSHK takes Husky Cigna and Anthem Blue Cross insurance. We also utilize a sliding scale fee to help clients with payment. No one is turned away due to inability to pay.
YFSHK provides a comprehensive list of counseling services for members of the Haddam, Haddam Neck, Killingworth, Higganum and the surrounding areas within the Connecticut community. We understand that every case is different and aim to work closely with your family’s needs and schedule to identify a program that works for you – whether this may be just a short-term intervention or an extended process.
We specialize in individual, couple and family therapy as well as marriage counseling. However, our programs regularly work with families, individuals and children dealing with a variety of challenges, including, but not limited to:

But We Need Your Help
For counseling to be most effective, we ask that you actively participate in the process by not only being physically present, but also honest and open about the issues you’re facing. Our goal is to help you better understand the cause of these challenges and take action in an effective, sustainable, positive manner. In the end, we aim to support and encourage you to achieve personal goals and improve quality of life.
At YFSHK we comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and therefore all sessions and information will remain completely confidential. In the case of children and adolescents, we also work closely with the local school system to integrate a treatment that will be support the clients, should this be necessary. Please understand that if safety could be an issue, law may mandate that information be reported.
