Girls Night Out

Being a young girl isn’t easy! At Youth & Family Services of Haddam-Killingworth (YFSHK), we’ve developed the Girls Night Out Program to help girls and their parents better understand everything they’ve got going on – from changing bodies, to self-esteem, body issues, social trials and how to deal with the difficult challenges that arise.

Positive Body Image

Young girls today are constantly bombarded with images of unattainable beauty. Models drape across billboards boasting a terrifyingly tiny body fat percentage, TV stars flaunt their figures that have been cultivated by years of professional expertise, make up and hair stylists, and more realistic standards of beauty are left by the wayside. Our goal is provide young girls with the tools to look at themselves and feel good. A positive body image not only reduces the risk of developing eating disorders, but also boosts self-confidence and satisfaction.

My Body Is Changing! Help!

Puberty often hits girls as they approach their teen years. This brings with it a plethora of changes – both physical and emotional. You and your child may have a difficult time understanding how to deal with everything that’s going on. But we’re here to help. Together, we form a support group that openly and honestly discusses the challenges that many adolescent girls and their mothers and caregivers face today. This includes dealing with tough subjects, adapting to physical changes and finding a way to maintain the strong family bonds in the face of ever-changing emotions.

Dealing With The Difficult Stuff

From building positive relationships, to going through puberty and dealing with bullies – we’re covering it all during the Girls Night Out. Your child may think their the only one who feels a certain way about a specific topic, but with our program girls can speak together, support each other in the difficult task of navigating junior high, and learn how to better cope with difficult situations.

Girls Night Out Program

Back by popular demand, our fun and informational Girls Night Out is for girls in the 4th and 5th grades and their mothers or significant caregivers. The cost is $30 per pair and includes resource materials, goodie bags and a pizza dinner! During the course of the evening, we’ll deal with all the topics discussed above (and more) to gain a better understanding for you and your daughter about what’s really going on – and how to deal with it. Space is limited, so please register as soon as possible.

If you would like to participate in the Girls Night Out program please contact us to register for the next available evening. You can also learn more about our outreach programs. We’re looking forward to hearing from you.
