Holiday Giving Program

What’s a better way to spread some holiday cheer than giving to a family in need?

Participating in our Holiday Giving Program is a unique opportunity to help the members of the community who don’t have the means to celebrate the season to the extent in which they may have liked to.

A Win-Win Situation

Giving to others is not just a do-gooder activity. It is something that provides mutual benefits for both the giver and receiver. Those in need can benefit from the support of their neighbors, creating bonds and enjoying a holiday season without worrying if they can afford to celebrate at all.

In turn, those who donate can not only enjoy the intrinsic and external benefits that go with giving – increased social connection, a boost in happiness or feelings of gratitude, for example – but this can also teach the valuable lessons of generosity and supporting friends and neighbors for future generations to come.

Holiday Giving Program

At Youth & Family Services of Haddam-Killingworth (YFSHK), we’re proud to run donation programs throughout the year that help those in need during the holiday season. With your generous support, we helped over thirty families last Christmas, providing positive effects on community spirit and forging bonds between both givers and receivers.

Get Involved In The Holiday Giving Program

YFSHK would like to firstly thank the many generous families, businesses and local organizations that have donated money, food and gifts. Without your support, this program would not be possible. If you would like to donate this year, please contact us [link to page here].

Signing Up For The Holiday Giving Program

Families in the Haddam and Killingworth communities that would like to participate in the program must meet the eligibility requirements of residency and financial need. Participating families will then complete a “wish list” for each child (age 18 and below). The families will then be matched with an anonymous “secret elf” who will purchase the holiday gifts from the child’s list. For more information and to get an application, please stop by the agency during business hours after November 1.

If you would like to know more about our Holiday Giving Program, our outreach programs or would like to get involved, please don’t hesitate to contact us today. We’re looking forward to hearing from you.
